What do you get when you combine creativity, assertiveness, passion, supportiveness and drive?  You get the visionary, director, playwright, and screenwriter, J. Nicole.  Born Jasmine Randle, J. Nicole was raised in Central Illinois youngest of nine and aunt to 19-nieces and nephews.  She quickly and naturally learned how to function within a collaborative unit.  However, coming from such a big family, J. Nicole knew that she had to eventually set out to find her own voice and pursue her love of written word.  This led her to Chicago in 2018 where the real journey began.

 

J. Nicole is currently a MFA student at DePaul University studying film & television directing.  She is not shy about what she wants to accomplish in her life and believes that there is no role or position too small.  She can be found on set at DePaul and within the Chicago community in roles ranging from Production Designer to Camera Operator.  More notably, J. has been on set as a core extra for Season 6 of Fox’s Empire, as a Production Assistant for Season 7 of Chicago Med, Season 1 and 2 of Power Book IV: Force, and much more. J. Nicole had her directorial debut in 2020 with short film, World 4 – Level , which won the Audience Choice Award at the Internation Black Film Festival in 2022.

 

She believes that every great story is derived from daily trials and tribulations that make many, including herself, uncomfortable.  But it’s these stories that J. Nicole embraces because discomfort enacts change and change is needed for progress.  So, her goal as a filmmaker is simple; J. Nicole is dedicated to pushing comfort levels, shepherding and creating content that sparks a conversation; effectively bringing visions to fruition.
